Get excited music fans! Jazz’SAlive is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in Travis Park with live performances from both national and international artists, plus local & regional bands who participated in the very first Jazz festival in Travis Park.

There will be plenty of food, fun and, of course, entertainment for all ages! Children’s activities will be featured both days from noon to 6 p.m. All proceeds benefit San Antonio and County Parks. Celebrate Mexican Independence Day at Avenida Plaza Guadalupe

Celebrate the Mexican Independence Day by attending one of the biggest festivities in San Antonio–16 de Septiembre. The fun will take place at Avenida Plaza Guadalupe (1313 Guadalupe St); it’s “one of the most sought after multicultural fiestas in San Antonio and the surrounding areas,” so it can’t disappoint!

Join the party on Saturday, September 14, beginning at 8:00 a.m., complete with a Drill Team Competition, Parade, Festival and the Boxing Extravaganza featuring the Floyd Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez bout. The schedule is as follows:

  • Drill Team Competition @ 8:00 a.m.
  • Parade Step-Off @ 10:00 a.m. You must register to take part in this!
  • Festival @ 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Admission is FREE, so don’t miss out!
  • Boxing Extravaganza begins @ 7:00 p.m.

Tickets to the Boxing Extravaganza costs $30, but is well worth since this fight is guaranteed to be a good one between 2 undefeated boxers! We hope you can make it out to celebrate and prepare for the Grito de Delores.

International Accordion Festival at Historic La Villita


Are you music lover? What about a lover of all kinds of music? If you answered yes, you have to attend the International Accordion Festival scheduled to take place September 14-15. You’ll enjoy performances, workshops, open mics and jam sessions on multiple stages with the finest accordionists on the planet!

The fest will be held at Historic La Villita and open on the following days and times: September 14th 12-11:00 p.m. & 15th 12-10:00 p.m. This event is sponsored by IAFA, Dept. for Cultural & Creative Development, and you’ll get just that–a cultural experience like none other.

Not only will the top accordionists be in attendance, the San Antonio Food Truck Association will too! That means the best foods on four wheels in San Antonio will be serving at the festival.

Taste of the River Walk is Coming Soon!


The Taste of Houston Street is like a “warm up” for the rest of the weekend as the Taste of the River Walk commences September 11th & 12th from 6:00-8:30 p.m. This is an event that brings the local San Antonio crowd to the River Walk and a chance for them to fall back in love with the River Walk.

Don’t Miss the Taste of Houston Street, San Antonio!


Unless you’re new to town, there’s no doubt you know about the Taste of the Riverwalk. You know, the “event that brings the local San Antonio crowd to the River Walk to sample culinary offerings from over 35 participating establishments over a three day period.”

Well, it starts on Tuesday, September 10 and runs until Thursday the 12th, but that first night is a little different from the rest. Tuesday night will offer “A Taste of Houston Street,” as part of the Downtown Tuesday initiative by the City of San Antonio. Parking will be free at City-owned lots and garages after 5:00 p.m. Check out a few of the confirmed restaurants:

A convenient and affordable opportunity to walk down Houston Street and sample culinary offerings at participating restaurants. Tickets are limited, so grab yours before they’re gone.

Tejano Breakfast Kicks Off Tejano Heritage Month


September has been designated Tejano Heritage Month by the State of Texas, Bexar County and City of San Antonio. Created to bring awareness and education about the true contributions and lives of Tejano pioneers, the events of Tejano Heritage Month vary from historic commemorations to educational, governmental, community and religious activities.

On August 31, from 10:00 a.m. – noon in Alamo Plaza, Texas Tejano will kickoff  Tejano Heritage Month with a Tejano Breakfast. The Breakfast will tell the story of Tejanos, such as Toribio Losoya, Gregorio Esparza, and Juan Seguin who fought and died along side Davy Crockett and James Bowie. You can also expect live entertainment, music and food.

They invite everyone to come out to learn about Tejano heritage and legacy as they educate, elevate, and celebrate the true lives and legacies of Tejanos. This event is free and open to the public; for information call 210-673-3584.

An Evening In…Main Plaza, San Antonio!


Remember back in June when you missed out on the  “An Evening in…” event held in Travis Park? Well, it’s that time of the month again, so don’t miss out on the fun and food this time! It’s scheduled to be held in Main Plaza (115 E. Main Plaza) on Tuesday, July 30, from 5-8:00 p.m.

What can you expect? Food trucks, of course, and live entertainment in conjunction with Downtown Tuesday–because Tuesday is the new Friday. In an effort to bring locals Downtown, Councilman Diego Bernal and Downtown Operations Department bring you Downtown Tuesday. Be sure to take advantage of the free parking and for information call 210-207-3677.

And always keep in mind, food trucks are located at Travis, Soledad Street near the Weston Centre, and Madison Park (when not at Main Plaza), serving lunch weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., along with breakfast and evening serving times as well.

The 2013 Summer Jam is on at Arneson River Theatre


All summer long the students at LJE Music Lessons have been learning and fine tuning their skills and it all culminates at the 2013 Summer Jam on Sunday, July 28th from 4:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. This free concert will be a don’t miss event so grab the entire family and head to La Villita’s Arneson River Theatre.

With over 10 years of experience teaching private lessons Five-Time GRAMMY Award nominee Leroy Esparza has taken the lead in providing high quality instruction in various instruments for students of all ages. LJE Music Lessons consists of 5 instructors providing music education in guitar, piano, flute, recorder, saxophone, violin, viola, cello, and drumset.

You can witness the growth of the students at the 2013 Summer Jam. It’s a rock concert where the students are the stars, so join them for a rockin’ night of music and fun.

Don’t Miss ¡BRAVO! An Evening of Song and Dance


Looking for some summer fun around San Antonio? Well, there are definitely a few events taking place that you should check out, that benefit both you and great organizations. Beginning Wednesday, July 3, you can take in the stylings of ¡BRAVO!

Scheduled every Wednesday and Thursday through July 25, the award-winning program features dancers performing Mexican Folkloric, tap, jazz, hip hop and Latin style dances in a production reflecting the unique cultural tradition of this region.

BRAVO! An Evening of Song and Dance, will take place in Historic La Villita’s Arneson River Theatre from 8:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. with live music by city youth band Take Note. This program is sponsored by City of San Antonio Parks & Rec. Department; a $10 donation is suggested for general admission with all proceeds benefiting the youth participating in the department’s cultural programs.

An Evening in Travis Park


Each month residents of San Antonio are invited and encouraged to attend an event called “An Evening in…” for awesome food and entertainment. It takes place on the last Tuesday of the month which also coincides with Downtown Tuesdays so that San Antonians can take advantage of the free parking.

Well, on June 25th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. food trucks galore and live entertainment will be awaiting your arrival in Travis Park (301 E. Travis). The food trucks will be in Travis Park this scheduled evening, but remember Downtown Mobile Food Truck Vending program continually offers delicious culinary options to you and yours.

Food trucks are located at Main Plaza, Soledad Street near the Weston Centre, and Madison Park (when not at Travis), serving lunch weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., along with breakfast and evening serving times as well. If you need more information, be sure to call 210-207-3677.
