Celebrate San Antonio’s 300th Birthday This New Years Eve

This New Year's Eve is an especially exciting one in San Antonio, because it's also the city's tricentennial! Celebrate 300 years of San Antonio at the Celebrate 300 event downtown, which features live music, great food, dancing, kids events and much more.

There will be live performances across three stages, including headliners like four-time Grammy award winner Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo and Grammy-nominated American rock band, REO Speedwagon. The kids will enjoy carnival games, a ferris wheel, outdoor movies and a performance by Magik Theatre in the Tricentennial Garden. Admission is free and open to the public, so you won't want to miss this historic event!

Meet Horton and the Whos at Seussical the Musical!

There's a whole world of magic that only Dr. Seuss can create at Seussical: The Musical, a kid-friendly musical presented by the STARZ Youth Performance Troupe! Reconnect with all of your favorite Seuss characters at this colorful performance on Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd, 2016.

Seussical: The Musical takes place at the Sheldon Vexler Theatre, and its actors consist of fifth- through twelfth-grade students from around the San Antonio area. These talented young actors will tell the story of Horton the Elephant and the magical world of the Whos, including Jojo, a special child who "thinks too many thinks". Horton runs into a whole world of problems when he's asked to guard Mayzie La Bird's abandoned egg, but luckily, his pal Gertrude McFuzz never leaves his side. The whole story is narrated by everyone's favorite Cat in the Hat, and it makes a wonderful way to spend time with your whole family in San Antonio.

Don’t Miss the 125th Anniversary of Fiesta San Antonio and Fiesta Flambeau Parade

The Fiesta Flambeau Parade began in 1891 to honor the heroes from the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Approximately 3.5 million people attend Fiesta San Antonio each year, decked out in their brightest, more eye-catching costumes. Discover Some of the Best Artists Around Fort Sam Houston During Contemporary Art Month

Support the local art and education communities in San Antonio during Contemporary Art Month, a celebration of the area's artist community that takes place throughout the month of March. Events are held at various art galleries, museums, performing arts spaces and schools around the area, and they're sponsored by numerous local companies and organizations.

Attend multisensory events at galleries like Blue Star Contemporary, Cinnabar Gallery and even UTSA Main Art Gallery, which even showcase works from area art students. Cultural exhibitions will take place at Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and The Jackson Ranch in the Heart of San Antonio, while fashion and design enthusiasts will learn about textiles at the Northwest Vista College Palmetto Center for the Arts. If you're interested in getting a glimpse at the artistic process, you can even take tours of local artists' workspaces during the open studio tours. Bask in the Glow of Thousands of Luminaries During the Annual Fiesta de las Luminarias, Taking Place This Weekend Near Fort Sam Houston

You've likely encountered quite a few holiday light displays in your time, but not many are quite like San Antonio's Fiesta de las Luminarias. Every holiday season, this dazzling event illuminates the River Walk with the gentle flicker of more than 6,000 paper-bag luminaries. The luminaries follow the contour of the San Antonio River, setting the scene for a festive seasonal stroll near Fort Sam Houston.

Free to enjoy, this year's Fiesta de las Luminarias takes place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening through Sunday, Dec. 20. The candles are lit at dusk.

Mark Your Calendars, Fort Sam Houston: The Diwali San Antonio Festival of Lights Returns for Its 7th Year on Nov. 14!

Did you know that San Antonio is home to the country's only city-sanctioned Diwali festival? It's called Diwali San Antonio Festival of Lights, and the annual event, which will return for its seventh year in 2015, is known to attract nearly 15,000 people from all over the Lone Star State — and beyond.

But exactly is Diwali? In a nutshell, it's a Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. On Saturday, Nov. 14, this "festival of lights" will head to La Villita on the banks of the San Antonio River for six hours of family-friendly entertainment that will include traditional Indian dance, a lighted candle release, Indian handicrafts, Indian cuisine, and a fireworks display.

Perhaps best of all, Fort Sam Houston? The Diwali San Antonio Festival of Lights is free to attend!
