Beware, Fort Sam Houston! Ghosts, Ghouls and Goblins Will Take Over SeaWorld San Antonio This October During Howl-O-Scream

If you're planning a visit to SeaWorld San Antonio this October, be sure to gather your wits about you as day turns to night. Because as soon as the clock strikes 7 p.m., the theme park sheds its marine theme to take on a whole new persona during Howl-O-Scream!

During this annual event, which takes place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night in October, things that go bump in the night come out to play. Select parts of the theme park are transformed into haunted villages, complete with "scare squad" actors hiding in the shadows. Rides are decked out in creepy ambient lighting and fog, while special performances include a Halloween-themed Shamu show and a dance performance starring ghosts and ghouls. Afterward, you can refuel with a signature cocktail at the Blood Thirsty Cocktail Bar!

Access to Howl-O-Scream is included in regular SeaWorld park admission. Note that this event isn't suitable for young children, so you might want to leave the kids at home at Fort Sam Houston with a sitter. And don't forget to wear a costume!

From the Petting Zoo to the Food Court, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Near Fort Sam Houston Has Something for Everyone

It's been more than 60 years since the first San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, but its roots go back even further than that. In 1854, San Antonio played host to Texas's first agricultural fair. Despite its success, similar fairs couldn't follow due to the lack of a large arena in San Antonio. That all changed when the Freeman Coliseum opened—the brainchild of a local who wanted the youth of Texas to gain exposure to its agriculture. This year, parts of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo will still be held in the Freeman Coliseum, and the rest of the events right next door at the AT&T Center.

So if you're interested in the state's agriculture and livestock (or just interested in contributing to a fund that goes into educating Texas's youth about agriculture), corral some friends from Fort Sam Houston and head to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo! From the petting zoo to pony rides, there are plenty of activities for young children. There's also plenty of Southern comfort food for the entire family. Hunter Hayes, Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban are among the many well-known performers who will set the soundtrack for rodeo events.

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo takes place February 12 to March 1.
